Grouping is a defining feature of Teamworks AMS and allows people to be classed together for data entry, viewing data, reporting, and planning purposes. People can be grouped, for example, by sporting discipline, class, year, age, gender, or team. The names, members, and properties of the groups that are used on an AMS site are determined by an AMS administrator or, to a limited extent, a team administrator (excluding personal groups) according to organizational requirements.
The group environment that you are currently part of determines how you can use AMS. This is because you can only view or edit data relating to yourself (if you are a member of the current group) or members of the current group (if you are a professional user), although it is possible to be both a member and have professional user access to the same group. You cannot view or edit information about anything outside of the group environment you are currently operating within. To do so, you must navigate to a different group.
If you are a professional user, you will have access to groups of athletes without necessarily being a member of these groups. This means you can edit and view information about people within that group. It is also possible to enter data for a group of people at the same time. For example, if all people in a group need to have the same data about them updated, you can do this in group data entry mode. Any subgroups will also be accessible if you have access to their parent group.
In the example below, the Fusion Sport All Stars group has four coaches, or professional users. These people can view and edit information about all of the athletes within the Fusion Sport All Stars group.
Grouping is generally organized in the same way as an organization's structure. This can be hierarchical or flat. A hierarchical organization is structured like a pyramid, with people having access to more groups when they are higher up the pyramid. The effect of this is that every person, except one, is subordinate to at least one other. The largest groups of people are located at the base of the pyramid. The advantage of this type of organization is that it is clear who is responsible for who; disadvantages include difficulty communicating across groups.
Flat grouping structures do not have as many levels as hierarchical structures. This means that groups are split less often and many people are subordinate to a few people. This type of organization improves communication between groups and allows for simpler decision-making, as more responsibility is held by fewer people. Disadvantages include a lack of specificity and impediments to growth.
Generally speaking, AMS sites are suited to hierarchical grouping structures; however, organizational requirements often mean these grouping structures can become complex. Understanding the grouping structure used by your organization can improve your user experience with AMS and allow you to communicate this knowledge to others.
This is an example of a possible grouping structure in AMS where the grouping structure generally follows the hierarchical structure of the organization. In this example, people are first grouped by sport, then by the division within the sport, and finally by gender. A coach of the women's development football squad will only have access to the athletes in the Women group, whereas a coach of the Development group will have access to all of the athletes in the Men and Women groups.

There are several ways to change the group that you are viewing, depending on the layout of your homepage:
- Select the name of the current group environment you are operating within at the right-hand side of the navigation bar at the top of the page.
- Locate and click the Groups button on your home page.
- Locate and click the Groups tab at the top of your home page.
Use one of these methods to open the Groups tool, then select the name of the group you want to use and click the Preview or Load button. If the selected group is a parent group, you will see some additional options.
- Set [group name] as the current group: select this option to load only the athletes in the selected group. In the example below, selecting this option for the Football group would only load the athletes who are a member of the Football group.
- Set [group name] and all subgroups as the current group: select this option to load all athletes in the selected group and its related subgroups. In the previous example, selecting this option for the Football group would load all National, Development and Junior athletes, including those in the men’s and women’s squads.
- Set [group name] and immediate subgroups as the current group: select this option to load athletes from the selected group and only the first related subgroup(s). In the previous example, selecting this option for the Football group would only load athletes who are members of the National, Development, and Junior groups. Athletes in the Men and Women squads would not be included.
- Move to a subgroup: subgroups of the selected group will be shown as buttons. Hover over the button to see the number of athletes and subgroups within the group and select the button to preview or load the group.
If you are a coach of one or more groups, the Current group widget allows you to view the current group and switch to a different group. The widget will display the name of the group that is loaded and the number of people in that group. Select the Switch button to view the groups you have access to.
Groups are denoted by a folder icon; tap the group to view the people in that group or its sub-groups. By default, groups will be displayed as a list but you can switch to a grid layout by tapping the icon or updating your app preferences in Settings > App preferences > toggle on Display switch groups as a grid.
The search bar allows you to look up a group or athlete that you have access to. This may be particularly useful if you have access to lots of groups and are unsure which group someone is in.
To load the selected group, select the Load button at the bottom of the screen. All people within that group and its sub-groups (if any) will be loaded.
If navigating through multiple sub-groups, the trail of parent groups is shown across the screen, which you can swipe through. You can select a group name within the trail bar to return to a previous group.
We're replacing the Kiosk app with the AMS app and, as a consequence, support will be discontinued as of December 2023. To continue to use the kiosk service, please download the AMS app and migrate this site set-up.
Use the Groups screen to choose which groups should appear in the athlete view. Only users who are members of the selected groups will be able to enter data.
