Use sections to divide and organize each canvas of a dashboard. A canvas must have at least one section and may have as many sections as you need. Readers shouldn’t need to scroll to view all dashboard sections, but it is a good idea to use a section for each topic area of your canvas. If a topic is too large for a single section, consider making it its own canvas.
You can duplicate, delete and move sections between canvases. These icons appear in the sidebar and above the selected section. If you are moving a section from one canvas into another, you can select where to position it in the new canvas. Once moved, the section will keep all of its settings. Any widgets contained within the section will also move with the section to the new canvas.
Use the sidebar to configure the section
Select the section to display the section settings in the sidebar. These settings include:
General
Use the General properties of the sidebar to add descriptive information for your section. To edit titles and subtitles, you can click on their text within the section header in the dashboard editor. This will automatically open the sidebar and the input fields will be focused so you can add updated text straight away.
In the General properties you can:
- Provide a title and icon for the section and specify the title color and title background color.
- Add a subtitle for the section and specify the subtitle color.
- Choose the background and border color for the section.
Instructions
Here you can add static informational content which will appear below the section title. This will appear below the subtitle, and can include text, images, tables, links and other common content tools.
Section properties
By default, sections are able to be collapsed by clicking on the section header. In the Section properties, you can set a section to be collapsible or non-collapsible. If the section is able to be collapsed, you can also choose whether you want the section to be collapsed by default when the dashboard is first opened.
Here, you also have the option to enable grid layout. The grid layout allows you to design your dashboard with more flexibility, by providing more control over the width, height and placement of your widgets. You can resize a widget by dragging its borders or corners and you can move widgets around by clicking and dragging. This layout also allows for multiple widgets to be stacked vertically next to a single widget, like in the example below, and for empty space to be added between widgets.
In the Section properties, you can also define the number of Columns the section is divided into. This property is used in conjunction with the widget width to ensure that your dashboard components are aligned according to your needs. In the example below, the section’s Columns property is set to ten, and each of the wellness tiles are two columns wide, meaning they can fit evenly on one row without any wasted space.
Printing
Use the Printing properties to elect whether to show a section on the printout of a dashboard, as well as to force the section onto a new page. This setting can be useful for when you’re unsure of exactly how large a section will be (for example, if it includes a table), to ensure the next section begins at the top of the following page.
