The Dashboard builder allows you to create dashboards that display the data you’ve collected using event forms. Event forms record date and time-stamped data about an athlete, soldier or student and can contain many different fields. Each event form can be thought of as a dataset, which can be used as a source of data for your dashboards. Each dashboard widget can then be configured to display data from the data sources you’ve set up.
The Dashboard builder uses widely implemented web standards for visualizations (SVG, HTML5, and CSS), which allows you great control over the final visual result. This gives you many options for customizing the appearance of your dashboard. The exportable graphics of the Dashboard builder make it well-suited for printing.
Across the top of the Dashboard builder, you’ll find these elements:
- Dashboard name (ours is called Athlete Availability).
- Status message (indicates whether there are unsaved changes, your draft is saved or your dashboard is published).
- Dashboard tab: used to preview your dashboard, add new components and adjust the properties of each component.
- Data tab: used to manage your data sources.
- Rulesets tab: used to set up conditional formatting.
- Settings tab: used to edit your dashboard's settings.
- Undo and Redo buttons.
- Save Draft and Publish buttons.
- Help.
- What’s new.
- Exit button.
Undo/Redo
When editing your dashboard, you can undo and redo up to 100 actions by clicking on the buttons in the top right of the dashboard builder, or by using the following keyboard shortcuts:
- For Mac:
Cmd+Z
to undo andShift+Cmd+Z
to redo. - For Windows:
Ctrl+Z
to undo andCtrl+Y
to redo.
You can undo and redo actions even after publishing or saving your dashboard as a draft. This allows you to experiment with various dashboard builder features, knowing that you can quickly reverse a potentially time-consuming mistake.
Repairs
Occasionally, a dashboard might have errors that prevent the components in the dashboard from working as intended (like missing properties or broken filters). When this occurs, the dashboard builder will attempt to automatically repair your dashboard and you’ll see a repair message next time you open the dashboard.
If you see a message saying your dashboard has been automatically repaired, you can view the fixes that have been made.
Enterprise configurations
If your AMS site exists on an enterprise configuration (that is, it is a parent or child site), note that dashboards cannot be linked between sites. In order to use a dashboard on multiple sites, it will need to be exported and imported into each site, and any changes made to the dashboard will need to be replicated on each site.
